About

What's this exam about?

The Croatian Category B boat licence is the ideal starting point for anyone who wants to sail independently along the Adriatic coast. With it, you can operate motorboats and sailing yachts up to 18 metres, as well as jet skis, anywhere within 12 nautical miles of the coast. It covers a large part of the Adriatic charter fleet, so it's the practical choice for family holidays, trips with friends, or your own days out at sea. You earn it once and keep it for life — no renewals, no expiry.

There's no medical exam and no prior experience required, and you can take the exam from the age of 16. During the preparation, I'll walk you through everything you need for both the exam and real situations on the water: basic navigation, maritime signals, the rules, right-of-way, VHF radio use, and the practical know-how that actually matters once you're at the helm.

Preparation and exam both take place in Zadar. My goal isn't just to get you through the exam — it's to make sure you feel confident, prepared, and clear about what to expect. The price covers everything: the full preparation, the study materials, the official exam fee, and all the paperwork. Everything is arranged for you — one complete, guided process from start to finish, so you can focus on learning and getting ready for the sea.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any prior experience?+

No, no prior experience or qualification is required. You can take the exam from the age of 16. We start from zero — navigation, maritime signals, rules, and VHF radio use — and go through everything you'll need for the exam.

How long does preparation take?+

You'll receive the study materials in advance so you can review them at home. The day before the exam, we hold around 3 hours of preparation, followed by a 1-hour review on the day of the exam.

In what language is the exam held?+

The exam is conducted in English or German. Don't worry about the language — I prepare you thoroughly beforehand, so you'll know exactly what to expect and walk in fully ready.

What documents do I need?+

A valid ID card or passport, and 2 passport-style photos (2.5×3 cm). Everything else — registration, administration, official paperwork — I handle for you.

When will I receive my licence?+

On the same day as the exam — in fact, you usually have it in your hands just a few minutes after passing the exam.

Is the Category B licence valid in other countries?+

It is valid throughout the Adriatic Sea, including Croatian, Montenegrin, Slovenian, and Italian waters. If you also plan to sail elsewhere — on Lake Balaton, the Danube, or other European waters — the combined ICC + Category B exam is the ideal option: it is recognised in 21 countries and can be obtained with a single exam.

How long is the Category B licence valid?+

The licence is valid for life — there is no need to renew it, and it has no expiry date. Once you earn it, it stays yours.

What is included in the price?+

The preparation, the exam fee, the study materials, and all the administration. All you need to focus on is the exam — I'll take care of the rest.
